Kookaburra Barbeque

G’day mate!

Got my eye on the prize!

Hey!  Check out the BBQ area!

Looks like we might be in for a free lunch.  Let’s just stick around in the trees and keep watching…. Those two guys down there have just finished cooking.  Mmmmm… smells good, too!

This is where us kookaburras live – Wappa Dam.  This beautiful reserve is just outside a town called Yandina in the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

We love it here. Plenty of tall trees to perch in.  Good for a bird’s-eye view of any food that might be around.

Best of all we love picnics and BBQ’s.   We don’t wait for an invitation.   We just know everyone loves us.

It’s Autumn here now and the leaves on the liquid amber trees are just beginning to turn red.

What’s that?  Did someone just throw something.  Whoopee!  A bit of sausage!

Look what else is on the Barbie!

It was fun showing you around our home here in Australia (of course). Come back real soon and bring us a bit of food if you like.

We only eat like birds, you know.

Must fly,  Goodbye.

  1. Thanks Hugh! Kookaburras are wonderful fun and they kill snakes, too. When they are fed anything – such as a bit of sausage they always bang it in the ground to kill it because that is what they do to snakes! It’s just instinct but fun to watch! 🙂

    • Oh, now I really do like them if they kill snakes, as snakes are the one creature that really frighten me. I can’t even watch them on the TV. They are my worst nightmare. Thank goodness we only have one native snake in the UK, which is very shy of us humans, otherwise I’d be looking at exporting some Kookaburras over.

      • We need Kookaburras here as there are plenty of snakes! I don’t like snakes either but we get them in the backyard sometimes.

Once there was a carpet snake living underneath an old sofa on my back porch. 🙂
